From the Math 30-1 Information Bulletin 2023-2024

Taken from the Alberta Education website:

“Students are able to use the power law to simplify a logarithmic expression, but many continue to have difficulty combining multiple logarithmic laws to simplify an expression into a single logarithm or to solve a logarithmic equation”.

My suggestion is to employ RED ALERT. When presented with adding and/or subtracting logarithmic terms having the same base, focus on the logarithmic laws. The application of one or more of these laws is typically required.
