Comparing and Interpreting Rates

What is a Rate?

A rate is a comparison of two amounts that are measured in different units; for example, keying 240 words/8 min. A unit rate is particularly useful for comparison. This is a rate in which the numerical value of the second term is 1.

A Proportion

A proportion is an equation in which two ratios are set equal to each other. We will be setting up proportions and looking at two different ways to solve for a missing value.
