Alberta Education releases previously used diploma exam questions to help students and teachers prepare for upcoming assessments. Although answer are given, detailed solutions are typically the responsibility of the teacher.
The importance of understanding how correct answers are derived cannot be underestimated. If students can gain insight into the foundational concepts underlying these questions, they are in a much better position to achieve success.
In this document, you will find 127 multiple choice and numerical response questions with detailed solutions, that were released by Alberta Education for the years 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019. They are grouped by topic and year of release. Each segment has a guided animated google slides presentation leading the student in steps towards the solution. Each set of slides has an accompanying video that provides a slightly deeper analysis. Thus, students have the option for just visual guidance, or both audio and visual explanations.
A suggested way to gain maximum advantage of this resource is to look at the question slide, pause, and then attempt to answer the question. Use the guided solution process to check understanding and build confidence, or to use as a tool to assist if unsure how to proceed. By looking at all the items from a given topic spread across multiple writing sessions, patterns emerge as to the general types of questions used to assess particular outcomes. This resource can be used at the end of a unit, or at the end of the course as a means of preparing for the diploma exam.
