Alberta Education periodically releases questions used in previous diploma exams. These questions are analyzed to determine the percentage of students who answered correctly.
The following document reviews the assessment items from 2013 where the student success rate was below 50%. What types of questions might be this challenging? Furthermore, what are the possible reasons why students struggled with these particular questions? Some potential reasons are provided.
Both students and teachers can benefit from a greater awareness of the nature of these “less than 50%” assessment items.
